Wed & Thu £5/£4, Fri & Sat £6/£5

'Those of you who've never seen Simon Evans, seek him out wherever he may lurk!' Varsity

'Simon's magical expertise, combined with his natural sense of theatre and showmanship, make him a huge hit!' Kevin Spacey

'Why can't he get a real job?!' Mrs Evans

Nearly six years after first performing at Cambridge, Simon Evans mounts the ADC stage again to bring you one last hour of his unique brand of magic!

It's been a busy six years, Simon has produced sell-out shows at the ADC and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He's performed on television and film, as a finale for a charity gala night at the Lyric theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, and for the Old Vic.

No gimmicks. No pretentions. Simon's performance is sheer entertainment, delivered with his own inimitable showmanship. Join him back at the ADC one more time as he says goodbye to his favourite theatre with a selection of some of his award-winning one-man effects, presented with his own irrepressible style.

Energetic, uproarious and unbelievable.

Where tea, history and factual inaccuracy collide

It's that time of year again - exams are drawing to an end, May Week is drawing to a start, and CULES celebrate in style with the Clements Garden Shows!

Not one, not two, not three, not even three and a half but FOUR fantastic, funny and underrehearsed short plays, around this year's theme of Historical Traves-teas!

Entry is £4 (that's £1 per play! bargain!), and all proceeds go towards the Emma Clements memorial cancer fund.

Come one, come all, next Friday and Saturday from 2pm to 4.30pm - in New Hall (or Murray Edwards, if you're the progressive type) Library Court.

Directions to New Hall Library Court (a lovely green gardenny bit just like the Secret Garden except with a socking great sculpture of a saucepan in it): go in the plodge and stroll down the corridor in a straight line, sweep dramatically through two sets of double doors until you're outside, turn left, sneeze, and it's in front of you.

If the weather is in-Clement (ho ho), we shall be making merriment in New Hall Long Room instead. (Hope the porters don't notice. Merriment's murder to get out of carpets.)

The Steinway concert is a regular feature at Robinson College now and is a wonderful opportunity to hear the fantastic Model B Steinway grand piano that the College is so fortunate to possess. This year the concert will be held on the 14th June at 5.30pm to 6.30pm in the Robinson College Chapel. The programme for this year’s concert will include Elgar’s Violin sonata in E minor op. 82, and Beethoven’s Piano trio in C minor op. 1 no. 3.

We are extremely lucky to have amongst our membership Guy Button, who is in his final year reading Music and is a holder of a BBC Fame Academy Bursary. Guy will be performing along with Geoffrey Thornton who is a University Instrumental Award Holder, and has played cello in numerous outstanding ensembles including the Colegium Musicum and the Cappe Quartet. Accompanying the two will be the Director of Music Studies Dr Jeremy Thurlow, who has not only contributed to academic excellence in Music at Robinson, but also galvanised and directed the music-making of Robinsonians, providing energy and achievements that have enriched the musical community and strengthened its sense of identity.

To book for this evening’s entertainment, please use the online booking form (or paper version) as provided. Tickets are £6.00 for adults and £4.00 for students and concessions. Please feel free to contact me in the development office on 01223 339036 if you have any further questions.

Description
The RockSoc tradition returns (obviously).

Sunday, June 14th is when the May Brawl will happen this year. I know this kind of clashes with the New Hall garden party, but I'm told that ends at 9pm, so why not miss an hour and come to the gig?

For a warm up, there's the Rocksoc picnic on Jesus Green, from 12pm.
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=84513187366

Bands confirmed so far...

Fury UK! http://www.myspace.com/furyuk

Since the release of their debut album "Face of Adversity" in 2007, Fury UK have toured endlessly and have played at the likes of Bloodstock, Bulldog Bash and the Rock of Ages fest, as well as sharing stages with Opeth, Nightwish and Dimmu Borgir. They play a Rock/Metal style strongly influenced by late 70's Rock and 80's Metal so if you love Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and Metallica, you'll love these guys!

Sorcerer's Spell! http://www.myspace.com/sorcerersspell

Those of you who were at Bloostock '08 surely remember these guys. Power Metal all the way, and in the way it should be done, so I'm sure they will satisfy our thirst for great music. They are coming from lands afar (well, Reading, Surrey, Bath and Cardiff) for this, so come out and make them feel welcome as you'll be hard-pushed to find a better example of the genre!

Perish in the Flames! http://www.myspace.com/perishintheflames

Cambridgeshire Death Metal brutality featuring an ex-committee member. These guys have played great gigs in the past, and this will be no exception as they're playing at the May Brawl, just for you lovely, beautiful people! If you haven't seen them yet (and shame on you) now is your chance!

THE COMEDY OF ERRORS
by William Shakespeare

Caius Court, Gonville & Caius College
16th - 18th June, 2pm - 4pm

The Comedy of Errors is a fast-paced farce that tells the story of two sets of identical twins accidentally separated at birth. Antipholus of Syracuse and his servant, Dromio of Syracuse, arrive in Ephesus, which turns out to be the home of their twin brothers, Antipholus of Ephesus and his servant, Dromio of Ephesus. When the Syracusans encounter the friends and families of their twins, a series of wild mishaps based on mistaken identities lead to wrongful beatings, a near-incestuous seduction, the arrest of Antipholus of Ephesus, and accusations of infidelity, theft, madness, and demonic possession. This is Shakespearean comedy at its best and will make for a fantastic May Week show in the grounds of Gonville and Caius College.

The Alcock Players present a bold new promenade production of one of Shakespeare’s strangest and most powerful plays. This is a late romance of self destruction, guilt, innocence and the possibility of a painful second chance at happiness.

Set in the beautiful gardens of Jesus college and its ancient chapel, this interactive performance is a May Week experience unlike any other.

Music, toffee apples, balloons, party games, fire, mandolin-playing clowns, magic tricks, and an appearance by Time himself, this is Shakespeare at his most cruel and joyous, reflective and explosive...

More inflatables per square metre than a fetishist's pool party

The plans for this year's garden party are nearly finished and it looks like it will be fantastic. There will be a free barbeque and soft drinks, a gladiator duel, bouncy castle, bungee run, velcro wall and rodeo bull. There will of course be the usual line-up of bands including the Churchill Jazz Band. To cap that off, there will also be a huge ball pit -- four times the area of the one at Spring Ball. 7m by 7m. That's as big as THE WORLD.

The event is open to members of the College. One guest is allowed maximum per College member, unless they bring their own bouncy castle.

An unruly bunch of bright, funny sixth-form boys in pursuit of sex, sport and a place at university. A maverick English teacher at odds with the young and shrewd supply teacher. A headmaster obsessed with results and a history teacher who thinks he's a fool.

In Alan Bennett's play, staffroom rivalry and the anarchy of adolescence provoke insistent questions about history and how you teach it; about education and its purpose.

---------

Our setting is the beautiful Grove Lawn at Fitzwilliam College (it's not as far up the hill as you think!).

Performances:

Monday 15th June - 6:30pm
Tuesday 16th June - 2pm
Wednesday 17th June - 2pm

Ticket prices and sales information will be up shortly.

It's The History Boys. It's at Fitz. It's going to be AMAZING.

A new interpretation of Shakespeare’s sparkling comedy will bring the glamour and the hypocrisy of the roaring 20s to life; complete with Charleston, cocktails and deception galore. Exploring the clashes between men and women, upper and lower classes, and ideals and reality, it will incorporate music and dance to help bring out the darker elements of the play, as well as complementing the comedy.

The play will be set in Clare's beautiful fellows' gardens and will provide a great break from last nights hangover.

Come one, come all, and enjoy Shakespeare being played out on a set money couldn't buy. There's a pond involved.

Hello everybody!

Ok, so for a while now I've been wanting to create a raft (or rafts, if we have enough people and stuff!) to float on the Cam, made out of whatever floatable crap we can find.

The plan will probably be to spend the morning making the raft/s and generally messing around/picnic lunch/whatever, then to embark on an epic quest and see if they actually float. If they do then we can wander round the Cam annoying punts and trying to stay balanced :) If they don't then oh well, we all get dunked and can laze around in the sun drying off :)

For the actual rafts... there's not really a plan, basically scavenge what we can between now and then that floats and see what happens! Or if we have enough people interested then split into teams and see who can make the best/prettiest raft, that could have pretty ridiculous results :)

Materials ideas.... so far I have collected 10 of the 20L paraffin containers (empty of course) for buoyancy, and we can get pallets or something as a top. Vanessa has floated baths in the past so people can try that. Get your thinking hats on! Start raiding those skips! :D

Come and play! It will be awesome :D

The date is provisional for now but is probably the best option as all exams will be long over and there are no may balls that night.
Oh, and feel free to invite anyone you think would be interested.

Love,
Frankie Xx
